About Walk For Troops®
In 1947 my father Case left his home in Holland.
War had ravaged his native land and he knew that there was a better life to be had, a life with limitless possibility, a life with the metaphorical milk and
honey ready to be seized if one only worked hard and had a dream. My father was such a man, and the United States is such a country. When he arrived here
he had little more than a suitcase full of clothes and the knowledge of his family’s trade, dairy farming. For the next five years he worked without a day off,
saving all of his money to buy his first bull and fifty cows. From there, his success had only just begun. He soon had a thriving dairy farm of his own, and
over the years, it grew as did his family too. Over the years Case never forgot the opportunity that America had given him. He had come with nothing and our
country gave him everything. Trips back to visit his family in Holland were nice, but he always was anxious to return home, his adopted home that had blessed him so much.
Ever thankful, Case gave back to the community whenever he could, but that was only just the beginning. He also showed his love and appreciation for a land that had given him so much by raising us children a sense of civic duty and civic pride, never letting us forget how blessed we were to be living in the United States. For our family, serving others was not just something you talked about, but a way you lived. It is in that vein that the Walk 4 Troops® website was started; not only as a tribute to my father who passed away in March of 2009, but as a tribute to this great country, a way of saying thank you. I hope that this website may be an inspiration to others and refresh and renew a love for country, giving a way that is more than just passive patriotism, but active participation in thanking the very men and women whose blood and sacrifice make this great country possible.
